Calling All TDU Members!

TDU members should receive the following email over the course of the next few days looking for volunteers for an RSR weekend in Kilkenny on the the 5th and 6th April preparing paddlers for the Club Championships. In case you missed it, here you go:

Hi Everyone,

Hope all is well and that everyone is making good use of the wet winter/spring.

As you may already know the Canoeing Ireland Club Championships is on the 12th & 13th of April 2014 and is shaping up to be a super event. You may also be aware that as part of the Club Champs Canoeing Ireland are running a series of training weekends almost every weekend up until the event, with the last weekend before the champs, the 5th and 6th April, being an RSR training weekend for the clubs.

The Training and Developing Unit have been tasked with running and coordinating the RSR training weekend. We are expecting a very high turn out for this weekend, with initial estimates indicating we should expect upwards of 200 participants! What an achievement that would be; 200 paddlers from canoe clubs around the country all up skilling their River Safety and Rescue Skills in one weekend! As you can imagine in order to run an RSR training course on this scale we are going to need some help and are recruiting volunteers to help us make this weekend as valuable for the Irish Paddling Community as possible. We expect that we will need approximately 25-30 instructors to help run this event. We would greatly appreciate your help.

We are asking instructors to come give us a helping hand to run this great initiative, in return the TDU will pay for accommodation and dinner on the Saturday night. There will be a great opportunity for networking between Instructors, Clubs and Participants with so many paddlers from 20 clubs nationally, all in Kilkenny for the weekend.
This is a great opportunity for the TDU and the instructors of Canoeing Ireland to give something back to the sport and also get something done that can be of greater long term benefit to the sport. All we need is for people to come together and give us a dig out on the 5th and 6th of April.

If you are interested in helping out please reply to this email (which is clubchampsrsr@tdu.ie for website/Facebook readers) and send your name, email address, phone number and level of instructorship you have. This is also open to trainee instructors who can come along to help deliver the RSR courses which will count towards logging hours and meeting instructor assessment pre-requirements.

We are really look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

Aidan Doran
Chairperson of the TDU
