Canoeing Ireland wish to highlight the current issue in Ireland with regards to invasive species and in particular the Asian Clam(Corbilcula fluminea).

We want to draw your attention to the effects the invasive species can have on our waterways with particular emphasis on the Asian Clam. The Asian clam is an extremely effective invasive species and can form dense clumps across rivers. Asian Clam (Corbilcula fluminea) was first spotted in Ireland in 2010 in the River Barrow and the River Nore in Co. Carlow and Co. Kilkenny. Specifically around the St Mullins get off on the River Barrow.
