The Junior Liffey Descent will be held on Sun 12th May 2024 starting at Salmon Leap Canoe Club racing to the Canoe Centre in Palmerstown.
Bib collection at Salmon Leap Canoe Club – 10:30am to 11:30am.
Race briefing will be at Salmon Leap Canoe Club at 11:30am.
The race will start at 12pm from Salmon Leap Canoe Club, Leixlip Lake.

    Race Categories

    Kayaks measuring 450 – 520 cms

    Including kayaks such as but not exclusive to Wild Water & Sea Kayaks

    • U15 is defined as any person under the age of 15 on 1st January of the year of the race
    • U18 is defined as any person under the age of 18 on 1st January of the year of the race.
    • U23 is defined as any person under the age of 23 on 1st January of the year of the race.

    Kayaks measuring 420 – 449 cms

    Including kayaks such as but not exclusive to Gola Sprint, Deceptor, Wave Hopper, Fastwave, Sea kayak

    • U15 is defined as any person under the age of 15 on 1st January of the year of the race
    • U18 is defined as any person under the age of 18 on 1st January of the year of the race.
    • U23 is defined as any person under the age of 23 on 1st January of the year of the race.

    (GP/Recreational Kayaks Only)

    All kayaks measuring 420 cms and below

    Including kayaks such as but not exclusive to Gola, Sprite & All other GP Kayaks

    • U15 is defined as any person under the age of 15 on 1st January of the year of the race
    • U18 is defined as any person under the age of 18 on 1st January of the year of the race.
    • U23 is defined as any person under the age of 23 on 1st January of the year of the race.

    All racing K2

    • U15 is defined as any person under the age of 15 on 1st January of the year of the race
    • U18 is defined as any person under the age of 18 on 1st January of the year of the race.
    • U23 is defined as any person under the age of 23 on 1st January of the year of the race.
    • K2 Mixed is defined as a boat falling in the K2 classification being crewed by each of a male and female paddler.

    All Touring Double kayaks less than 550cms

    • U15 is defined as any person under the age of 15 on 1st January of the year of the race
    • U18 is defined as any person under the age of 18 on 1st January of the year of the race.
    • U23 is defined as any person under the age of 23 on 1st January of the year of the race.

    All open canoe craft being paddled with a single blade paddle.

    • U15 is defined as any person under the age of 15 on 1st January of the year of the race
    • U18 is defined as any person under the age of 18 on 1st January of the year of the race.
    • U23 is defined as any person under the age of 23 on 1st January of the year of the race.

    Race Entry

    Important Notes

    • You must be a registered member of Canoeing Ireland to enter the Junior Liffey Descent.
    • Entries will be done through the Canoeing Ireland Membership Database.
    • Please ensure your membership details on the database are correct including your date of birth before completing the entry form.

    Closing Date

    • Deadline for entries is 9th May.
    • There will be no entries accepted on the day

    Cost

    • Entry fee @ €25.00 p/competitor.
    • Non return of race bibs at the finish will incur a €50 penalty.

    Class Amalgamations

    In the event of the minimum number of entrants not being met to populate a competitive class, amalgamations will generally occur as follows:

    U15 Categories – Classes will amalgamate up a level until minimum number of entrants are met. e.g. Should K1 Class C U15 fall below the minimum entry threshold it shall be amalgamated with K1 Class B U15 .If minimum entry threshold is still not met they shall be amalgamated with Class A. Men & Women shall always remain separate.

    U18 Categories – Classes will amalgamate up a level until minimum number of entrants are met. e.g. Should K1 Class C U18 fall below the minimum entry threshold it shall be amalgamated with K1 Class B U18 .If minimum entry threshold is still not met they shall be amalgamated with Class A. Men & Women shall always remain separate.

    U23 Categories – Classes will amalgamate up a level until minimum number of entrants are met. e.g. Should K1 Class C U23 fall below the minimum entry threshold it shall be amalgamated with K1 Class B U23 .If minimum entry threshold is still not met they shall be amalgamated with Class A.     K1/K2 Age Group Categories – Categories will amalgamate down an age group within their class until minimum number of entrants is met. e.g. Should U15 fall below the minimum entry threshold it shall amalgamate with U18. If the minimum entry threshold is still not met the age groups shall amalgamate with the senior category within their class

    K1 U23 Categories – Classes will amalgamate up a level until minimum number of entrants are met. e.g. Should K1 Class B fall below the minimum entry threshold it shall be amalgamate with K1 Class A. Men and Women shall always remain separate

    K2 U23 Categories – Should Women’s or Mixed K2 not meet the minimum entry threshold they shall be amalgamated with Open K2.

    In the event of any unforeseen circumstances relating to amalgamations, alternative arrangements may be made at the discretion of the race coordinator.
