Overview
With support from the Dormant Accounts Fund, Canoeing Ireland would like to invite clubs to apply for a small grant to aid with running an introductory paddling programme for people with additional needs from your local community.
The nature of each programme may differ depending on the level of accessibility within the club including considerations around facility access, equipment, transport and local disability organisation engagement.
Paddle Able Programme Aims
Specifications
- The course has a minimum of 10 hours contact time and can take place over a series of days or weekends.
- Each course runs within ratio guidelines of 1:6 or 1:8 depending on the instructor/coach qualifications. This ratio will be subject to the additional needs of participants.
- Club members are leading or assisting with leading the programme.
- The content and disciplines chosen to be run is decided by the club and group needs. Certification is optional however we recommend using the new Good to Go Award.
- Applicant clubs should have the capacity to take on participants as members should participants show interest.
- Clubs may either engage with one disability organisation to recruit participants or recruit individuals from the community through other means depending on the preference of each club. Support with this process and with linking with Local Sports Partnerships, Councils and Organisations is available through CI for those who are new to this.
This is an open application process. We invite Canoeing Ireland clubs to apply to this programme at any stage during 2021.
