On the 8th October 2016, at the Annual Delegate Meeting of Canoeing Ireland, a new Constitution was adopted for the Irish Canoe Union trading as Canoeing Ireland to bring the company into line with recent changes in company law. The new Constitution came into effect from that date.

Canoeing Ireland Constitution

Our previous Memorandum and Articles of Association contained a lot of content, additional to company law requirements, which regulated the running of the organisation e.g. notice of meetings, roles of board members etc. and the opportunity was taken to do a complete revamp and modernization of this for incorporation into a new set of Rules for the organisation and its members. These Canoeing Ireland Rules were also adopted at the Annual Delegate Meeting on 5th November 2016.

Canoeing Ireland Rule Book

The new Constitution and Rules form part of our commitment to bring Canoeing Irelandโ€™s governance in line with the Code of Governance (A Code of Practice for Good Governance of Community, Voluntary and Charitable Organisations in Ireland). A full audit and updating of all of our policies and procedures is underway and is planned to be completed within the current Boardโ€™s term of office.
