Canoeing Ireland is closely monitoring the advice from the National Public Health Emergency Team and the HSE in relation to Covid-19. The health and safety of our members and our responsibility as a community to limit the spread of the virus is our priority.

We currently recommend that clubs make decisions relating to activities on a case by case basis. We will work with clubs in an advisory capacity. The latest advice from government is that mass gatherings of 100 or more people indoors and 500 or more people outdoors should be cancelled. We recognise that these numbers exceed most club activities so we would ask you to consider the following in conjunction with government advice:

  1. Strictly follow the guidelines regarding prevention (wash, cover, avoid and clean).
  2. The use of changing facilities and toilets should be off limits as much as possible.
  3. Clubs should restrict groups/individuals who are at a higher risk of contracting the virus.
  4. We recommend that training should be undertaken outdoors at present. Group training in gyms should be cancelled.

Staff are available to answer individual queries from members if they arise, normal phone and email contact will be maintained.

The situation is changing rapidly. We will continue to monitor developments and will publish regular updates based on any new information as it becomes available.
