Canoeing Ireland have a massive day of paddling in store on the 8th of September. As part of the European Week of Sport this September we are encouraging all our clubs and members to join us out on the water on Sunday the 8th to both enjoy the wellbeing benefits of being active in the outdoors, and to get behind a brilliant cause supporting youth mental health in our schools. ‘The Rising’ is a massive charity challenge being undertaken by the A Lust for Life Team, led by Niall ‘Bressie’ Breslin, to raise funds and awareness for youth mental health and well being. The challenge consists of a 320 km kayak of the Shannon, followed by a 160 km cycle from Limerick to Killarney, and culminating in a climb up Ireland’s highest peak, Carrauntoohil. On behalf of Canoeing Ireland Ciaran ‘Kipper’ Maguire and Brian Keogh will be taking part in the challenge from start to finish, being a particular asset on lengthy paddling leg of the journey.
To show our support of this incredible challenge we are inviting our clubs and members to get out on the water, and ‘Rise up and Paddle’ to get behind this cause as a community. We are encouraging our clubs and members to incorporate our fundraiser into their paddling on the 8th, and to share images from their paddling to help us spread the positivity of our sport. We will be sending all our clubs some great digital resources to brand their images as part of the European Week of Sport and promote paddle sports as a method of exploring our beautiful surroundings.
With some great events taking place already on the 8th, including the Irish Canoe Polo Open and the Lower Liffey Marathon Race, we are encouraging absolutely everyone to get out on the water and engage with us on the day. We would love for the entire community to Be Active on the 8th and support the incredible undertaking of ‘The Rising’ challenge. Please get in touch with Canoeing Ireland with any questions on how to get involved.
