Any time you are out paddling don’t forget to Check. Clean. Dry.

Invasive species can block waterways and riverbanks making paddle sports difficult. Contaminated canoes, kayaks and other water sports gear and equipment can cause the spread of invasive species. Invasive plants and animals can be small and hard to spot and they can survive for weeks on damp gear and equipment.
Protect the environment and sport you enjoy by following these simple steps:

  • CHECK boats, equipment, clothing and footwear for after leaving the water for mud, aquatic animals or plant material. Pay particular attention to areas that are damp or hard to inspect.
  • CLEAN all equipment, footwear and clothes thoroughly. Use hot water, steam or a high-pressure spray if you can.
  • DRY all equipment and clothing for at least 48 hours before using it again. Make sure you don’t transfer water elsewhere.
