Canoeing Ireland is proud to announce our pursuit of the Silver Xcessible Award, reinforcing our commitment to inclusion and accessibility in paddle sports. Following our success in achieving the Bronze Xcessible Award, we are now advancing to the next level to further embed inclusive practices across our organisation.

What is the Xcessible Award?
The Xcessible Award, developed by Active Disability Ireland, recognises sports organisations that actively promote accessibility and inclusion. This framework supports us in creating a welcoming environment for paddlers of all abilities.

What’s Involved in Achieving Silver?
Building on the Bronze Award, achieving Silver requires us to:

  • Enhance policies and procedures to ensure sustainable inclusion practices.
  • Implement training and education for staff, volunteers, and coaches.
  • Strengthen partnerships with inclusion-focused organisations.
  • Engage with individuals with disabilities in our sport to gain insights and improve accessibility
  • Continue Developing programmes and initiatives for individuals with disabilities.
  • Measure impact to continuously improve accessibility.

How Will This Benefit Our Paddle Community?
Progressing to Silver will:

  • Make paddle sports more accessible and inclusive for all.
  • Provide training to ensure clubs and events are welcoming.
  • Encourage diversity and wider participation.
  • Foster a culture where everyone feels valued.
  • Unlock new funding and partnership opportunities.
