The thrilling 2025 Canoe Sprint National Championships took place over the weekend on Saturday, May 17th. Being hosted in Lough Rynn, Co. Leitrim, the event featured men’s and women’s races across Junior, U23, and Senior categories, spanning distances of 200m, 500m, and 1000m.

The championships showcased the remarkable development of young paddlers, a testament to the success of Canoeing Ireland’s Sprint Futures programme. This initiative aims to provide young athletes with opportunities to participate in assessment events, domestic races, and international competitions, fostering their development in the sport.

A massive congratulations to all the newly crowned national champions. With some dominant performances on both the mens and women’s side. In the mens, David Horkan (Senior K1M), Sean Butterly (U18 K1M), Sean Noud (U16 K1M) and Ethan Noud (U14 K1M) each took a clean sweep of all distances in their category. With a similar performance in the womens seeing Sadb Shannon (U18 K1W) and Caoilin Caffrey (U16 K1W) take home all the titles available in their respective categories.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the volunteers, officials, and supporters whose dedication and hard work made this event possible.
