We are pleased to announce the team of paddlers who will be representing Ireland on the Junior & U23 Canoe Sprint team in 2025. This team was selected over a series of three assessment races, taking place in both in Ireland and abroad. This process was informed by the new Canoeing Ireland Competition Pathway Strategy, employing a continuous assessment approach in order to consider the wide range of factors which influence our young paddlers, prioritizing their long term development in the sport.

The three races used for the selection process were –

  • Time-trial. Salmon Leap Canoe Club. 22nd March
  • Nottingham Sprint Regatta. 12th-13th April
  • Canoe Sprint National Championships. Lough Rynn. 19th May

Based on the results of these races, along with consultation with the paddler’s coach’s, the Canoeing Ireland Assessment Panel have selected the following team for the 2025 season –

  • Sadb Shannon. U18 K1W. 200m, 500mK2
  • Lucy Cullen. U18 K1W. 1000m, 500mK2, 5000m Mixed (Worlds only)
  • Sean Butterly. U18 K1M. 500m, 1000m, 5000m Mixed (Worlds only)
  • Conor Donnellan. U18 K1M. 200m
  • Carl Harris. U23 K1M. 200m, 500m

The 2025 season will see this compete at the 2025 ECA Junior and Under 23 Canoe Sprint European Championships taking place in 2025 ECA Junior and Under 23 Canoe sprint European championships at Bascov-Pitesti in Romania from the 3rd – 6th July 2025, and the ICF Junior and Under 23 Canoe Sprint World championships taking place Montemor-O-Velho in Portugal between 23rd -27th July.
