Canoeing Ireland wishes to inform all Liffey Descent participants and the wider paddling community of a change to the date of the 2025 race.
Due to works scheduled by the ESB on the Golden Falls dam in September, it has become necessary to reschedule this year’s event. These works will significantly impact water level management on the river, making the change necessary in the interest of participant safety and race quality.
The 64th Liffey Descent will now take place on Saturday, 18th October 2025.
We fully understand that this change may affect personal plans and preparations, and we want to sincerely thank you — our dedicated paddlers, volunteers, and supporters — for your understanding and flexibility. This decision was made following close consultation with the ESB and a broad group of stakeholders, always with the aim of preserving the spirit, safety, and success of this much-loved event.
We remain committed to delivering a race that lives up to the proud legacy of the Liffey Descent and are confident that the new date will ensure the best possible experience for everyone involved.
All existing race entries remain valid, with the registration process being unchanged. We would like to again thank you all for your cooperation and continued enthusiasm for this iconic event.
