We know that paddling has always been more than a sport. It’s an intimate connection with Ireland’s rivers, lakes and coastlines — the captivating natural spaces that rejuvenate our minds and give us adventure, freedom, and community. Our members care deeply about the natural world they paddle in, that’s why Canoeing Ireland is proud to announce that we have become a signatory of the Sports for Nature Framework — a global commitment to protect and restore the natural world through sport.
This is more than a pledge. It’s a call for our community to stand and take action with us.
- A call to our clubs to be champions for the waters and landscapes we depend upon.
- A call to our members to lead by example, making choices that protect biodiversity and reduce our impact.
- A call to everyone who loves paddling to stand up for nature, so that future generations will experience the same joy in the outdoors that we do.
By joining Sports for Nature, we are committing to long term, meaningful action: cleaner events, greener clubs, stronger advocacy, and a paddling community united in protecting the places we love most.
As a united community we can make an incredible impact but we need your help! Together, we can protect the natural beauty and biodiversity of Ireland’s coastlines and waterways, keeping them vibrant and full of life for generations to come.
Clubs and members: Over the coming months, we’ll be sharing opportunities, resources, and ideas for change that will help the paddling community make a tangible difference.
Let’s show what a sport truly rooted in nature can achieve.
