The Sanctuary Paddlers programme has continued to grow in 2026, with seven Canoeing Ireland clubs now taking part across the country.

Sanctuary Paddlers was developed through Canoeing Ireland’s collaboration with Sanctuary Runners, using the power of sport to bring people together, build friendships and create stronger, more connected communities. Since its launch, the programme has provided opportunities for people from migrant communities to discover paddle sports in welcoming and supportive club environments.

This growth would not be possible without the clubs and volunteers who have opened their doors, welcomed new paddlers and helped create a sense of belonging on and off the water.

A huge thank you to all seven clubs involved in Sanctuary Paddlers in 2026 –

  • Shannon Paddlers
  • Athy Rowing & Canoeing Club
  • Galway Kayak Club
  • Monastrevin Blueway kayaking club
  • Kilkenny Aqua Canoe Club
  • Kerry Canoe Club
