The Canoe Slalom Team has received a great boost leading in to the qualification year for the Paris Olympic Games with the appointment of a lead technical coach in Jure Meglic. Jure brings with him a vast amount of experience on the start line, being a World Cup medal winner and an Olympian (Rio 2016 Olympic Games), as well as an extensive coaching history. This appointment comes ahead of the 2023 season where we will see the key qualification events for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the main one of which will be the 2023 World Championships.

Speaking about the addition to the coaching team, Jon Mackey (Performance director) praised the coaching team, and thanked both Sport Ireland, and Mike Corcoran for their support of the current Olympic campaign.

“I am delighted to welcome Jure to the coaching staff for the canoe slalom performance programme. Jure will bring with him an impressive CV both from his own athletic career and his coaching career to date. Jure joins the existing coaching staff comprising of Eoin Rheinisch (Senior Coach), Richard Lee and Peri Guerrero at an exciting time in our programme’s development. All eyes are on 2023, an Olympic qualification year, and our senior team are in good hands. Sport Ireland continue to play a pivotal role in our performance programme’s development, and at this point I would also like to extend gratitude to Mike Corcoran who has been a great friend and supporter to our sport as we focus on Paris in 2024.”
