A firm highlight on the Canoeing Ireland calendar, the #BeActive Paddle Day this year again gave people all over the country the chance to get out on the water and try paddlesport for the first time. Run in partnership with Sport Ireland, this event aimed to introduce as many people as possible to the benefits of physical activity on our waterways. Over the month of September Canoeing Ireland clubs and partners ran some fantastic events and introduction sessions, all aimed at encouraging participation in our sport. Over the month we supported 28 Paddle Day events and sessions, getting over 700 people out on the water and enjoying the outdoors. As this event continues to build strength year on year we can’t wait to run next years edition.

Some highlights from this years events were visiting some fantastic introductory sessions with Kilkenny Aqua Canoe Club and Graiguenamanagh Canoe Club. Seeing 300 paddlers out on the water at the Overload Canoe Polo event. And the fantastic inclusive session run by West Cork Kayak Club.

We want to extend a massive thank you to all clubs who partnered with us and ran an introductory session. The full list of clubs and partners who ran a session for the Be Active Paddle Day can be found below –
