The first ever Canoeing Ireland Instructor Symposium set out to provide a weekend of interaction and education among Irelands Paddlesports instructors. Thanks to the enthusiasm and synergy from all in attendance, this first edition of the Symposium delivered the promised engagement and learning, as well as an extremely enjoyable weekend of communication and connection in the beautiful setting of Gartan, Co Donegal. In total the event welcomed 56 instructors and Canoeing Ireland staff to engage in 4 brilliant workshops over the weekend to explore the theme of ‘Better Basics’. These facilitated by some of Ireland’s top educators and Instructors.

  • Teaching Rolling with Shane McElligot
  • Boat Handling Skills with Dave McClure
  • Active Posture and Forward Stroke with Hannah Craig
  • Mental Skills and Strategies for Managing Fear with (Catherine Mahon)

Over 15 hours of workshop sessions were delivered across a combination of dry land and on the water.

The highlight of all this was the visible delight with which instructors engaged with the workshops, and the great feedback on the benefit of being able to engage with the industry leading experts in the Paddlesports area.
