Over the past three months, the Canoeing Ireland Training and Development Unit (TDU) has bid farewell to two long-serving committee members.

Lorcan McDonnell has stepped down after more than five years of service on the TDU, including his recent role as Chair since 2024. Based in Glencar, Kerry, Lorcan has dedicated nearly 30 years to outdoor education and training through his work with Cappanalea, Canoeing Ireland, and other organisations. His broad expertise across multiple paddle sports disciplines has been an asset to the TDU, both in his most recent tenure and during previous periods of service.

Craig Keyworth also leaves the committee after five years of dedicated involvement. Craig has been a strong voice for both Paddlesurf and Sea Kayaking. In 2024, he played a key role in organising Ireland’s first-ever Level 5 Paddlesurf assessment and has represented the country in international Paddlesurf competitions. He was also a driving force behind the Sea Kayaking Awards Review Group, which developed the new Sea Kayaking awards launched in 2023.

The committee and Canoeing Ireland would like to sincerely thank both Lorcan and Craig for their contributions and commitment over the years. We wish them all the best in their future endeavours.

The TDU will begin the process of recruiting new members, if you are a Canoeing Ireland instructor interested in joining the TDU please email development@canoe.ie
