We’re happy to share that Canoeing Ireland, in collaboration with the Training and Development Unit (TDU), is launching a new Continuing Professional Development (CPD) system from July 10th, 2025.
This system is designed to help instructors, coaches, and leaders stay current, grow their skills, and collaborate with peers. It aligns with Sport Ireland’s wider move toward CPD across National Governing Bodies.
How it works:
- Earn points by staying active as an instructor, taking part in CPD activities, and working with other instructors.
- 100 points = CPD certification. You’ll have 3 years to gain the first cert.
- After certifying, you can continue logging activities toward your next 100 points.
Getting started:
- Submit your qualifying activities via the form on the CPD page of the Canoeing Ireland Website : CPD Page
- More details and resources are available on the CPD page
Additional Opportunities:
Canoeing Ireland will offer events like the Instructor Symposium, Benchmarking Days, and Development Days. Instructor Developers, clubs, and providers can also apply to host CPD events—application details will be on the CPD page. We’ll be hosting an online info session after launch to walk through the system and answer your questions details to follow. Thanks for being part of this exciting step forward in instructor development—we appreciate your support as the system rolls out!
Coming up later this year is a brilliant opportunity to gain CPD points, and learn from some of the most experienced paddle sports instructors at the Canoeing Ireland Instructor Symposium.
