The Junior & U23 5K Series, first established in 2016, marks an important milestone this year as it celebrates its 10th anniversary. What began as a modest initiative has grown into a cornerstone event within the canoeing calendar, providing young athletes with invaluable racing experience while helping to develop the next generation of talent.
This continued growth was clearly reflected at the most recent race, which attracted an impressive field of 63 competitors—highlighting the increasing popularity and importance of the series.
A key driver behind the success of the Junior & U23 5K Series has been the ongoing support of its sponsors. Nelo Kayaks, Jantex Paddles, and Esmark Finch have consistently contributed high-quality prizes and played a significant role in enhancing the standard and profile of the event year after year.
At this year’s event, Sean Butterly and Caoilin Caffrey were awarded the Fastest Time Trophy, recognising the top junior male and female performances in the individual time trial.
The continued success of the series is a reflection of the dedication and commitment of all involved—from the athletes who compete, to the volunteers who give their time, and the sponsors whose support ensures the event can thrive each season.
