Canoeing Ireland is delighted to announce that the Junior Liffey Descent will return on Saturday, 16th May 2026, promising another exciting day of racing on one of Ireland’s most iconic rivers.
Building on the success of previous years, the Junior Liffey Descent continues to provide young paddlers from across the country with a fantastic opportunity to test their skills, gain race experience, and be part of a vibrant and supportive paddling community. The event is a key fixture in the junior calendar, welcoming both experienced competitors and those taking on their first major river race.
The classic course from Salmon Leap CC to the Canoe Centre in Palmerstown will once again challenge athletes with a mix of moving water, weirs, and technical sections. Participants can expect a a great day on the water, with plenty of rescue on the river and race volunteers working together to deliver a positive experience for all involved.
As always, the event is about more than just racing. The Junior Liffey Descent is a celebration of youth paddle sport in Ireland—bringing together clubs, coaches, families, and supporters to encourage the next generation of athletes. The atmosphere along the riverbanks and at the finish line is a highlight of the day, reflecting the strong community spirit within the sport.
We look forward to welcoming junior paddlers from across Ireland to the River Liffey this May for another memorable edition of the Junior Liffey Descent. Get your entry in below –
