We saw more promising season openers from our Canoe Slalom athletes racing last weekend in the 2021 Pyrenees Cup, in Pau France. The opening day of racing on Saturday saw particularly strong performances across all categories in the qualification events. In the C1 Men, the run of strong performances continued with Liam Jegou finishing in 2nd with Jake Cochrane following up in 4th, Robert Hendrick unfortunately got unstuck with penalties, finishing down the standings. Noel Hendrick in the K1 Men finished a great 4th, with Eoin Teague putting down a strong second run to place 8th in the second round of qualifications. Hannah Craig got off to a great start with a 16th in the qualifications for K1 Women.

Sunday saw the business end of racing with the Semi Finals and Finals. Jake and Liam both qualified through to the C1 Men final, with Eoin Teague, Noel Hendrick and Hannah Craig all suffered penalties on a difficult semi finals course keeping them out of the finals. In the C1 Men final both Liam and Jake showed very strong performances finishing 4th and 8th respectively. By the looks of things we will have a very strong season of racing ahead of us.
