HER Paddle Journey was back in 2024 to get as many women out on the water as possible during HER Outdoors Week (12th-18th August). We had a great new spin on the week with daily themes to add some great fun to the sessions. Among theses were the ‘Inclusion Day’, where we encouraged participants to host a session open to diverse groups, including those with disabilities, under served populations and various ethnic groups. The whole week also had a strong focus on the environment, the first day of HER Paddle Journey encouraged all sessions to do a ‘waterway cleanup’ while out on the water, gathering any rubbish found around their home stretch of river and preserving our water environments. The biggest impact we are hoping HER Paddle Journey will have on the week is through planting one tree for every 100k paddled, ensuring that not only are we welcoming more people in to the paddle sports community, but we are doing our part in preserving the environment that this community loves to explore.
We were once again blown away by the engagement with HER Paddle Journey, with a total of 6,356 kilometers being paddled by the community across the week. Each one of these kilometers was a woman getting out to embrace our outdoor spaces and take on a new adventure, and we were inspired by them all. The biggest distance added to the counter was again the Limerick Rape Crisis Charity paddle, always an incredibly popular event, and a great day on the water, which this year contributed a massive 972 kilometers to the journey. This along with the stunning engagement from the community means we’ll get to plant 65 new trees thanks to HER Paddle Journey. As always we went to say an enormous thank you to all who held a session, organised an event, or just got out there to paddle as part of HER Paddle Journey. We’re already planning for next year!
