This August, Canoeing Ireland was proud to once again support HER Outdoors Week, a nationwide initiative led by Sport Ireland to celebrate and encourage female participation in outdoor activities. Over the course of the week, the paddling community came together to showcase the best of our sport, delivering an incredible programme of sessions, events, and opportunities to connect with the water. To increase the opportunities for women to get out on the water over the week Canoeing Ireland supported our clubs to host ‘Skills and Social’ paddle meet up sessions. These community based sessions provided a welcoming environment for both new entrants and experienced paddlers to meet up and experience the benefits of getting out on the water.

  • 17 Canoeing Ireland–supported sessions took place across the country.
  • We saw a great range of sessions taking place, across at least 5 types of water craft.
  • 24+ clubs, providers and Local Sports Partnership hosted sessions, reflecting the passion and commitment of our paddling community.
  • Events spanned over 10 counties.
  • In total, 28+ events celebrated HER Outdoors Week on the water.
  • Online visibility got a boost too, with over 100 social media posts getting the message out there.

HER Outdoors Week is more than a series of events — it is a celebration of community, inclusivity, and empowerment. From first-time paddlers discovering the thrill of moving on water, to experienced women sharing their skills and passion, every event reinforced the message that the outdoors is for everyone.

A huge thank you goes out to the 24+ partner clubs, centres, and organisations who opened their doors, shared their expertise, and created welcoming spaces for participants. Your enthusiasm and dedication made HER Outdoors Week 2025 a success.

We also extend our gratitude to Sport Ireland, whose continued support makes HER Outdoors Week possible. Their commitment to providing opportunities for women and girls in outdoor sport has a lasting impact on our community and beyond.
