Canoeing Ireland has released the 2026 Canoe/Kayak Freestyle Selection Policy for Junior and Senior athletes. This document outlines the full process and criteria for selecting the athletes who will represent Ireland at the 2026 ECA Canoe Freestyle European Championships, taking place in Lieksa, Finland, from June 10–13, 2026.
Selections will take place at the Curragower Wave in Limerick City, with the primary selection competition scheduled for 8–9 November 2025, subject to suitable water levels. Alternative weekends in November and December have also been identified to provide flexibility in the event of weather or water-level challenges.
To be eligible, athletes must be current members of Canoeing Ireland, meet ICF and ECA eligibility rules, and complete all registration and anti-doping education requirements. The policy also outlines minimum performance thresholds, discretionary selection provisions, and clear appeal procedures.
