Canoeing Ireland has published the 2026 Canoe Polo Selection Policy and Process, outlining how athletes will be selected to represent Ireland at major international competitions this season.
The policy sets out the procedures for selecting the best possible teams across four squads: U21 Women, Senior Women, U21 Men and Senior Men. For each team, up to eight athletes will be selected, along with a reserve panel of up to four players.
Selected athletes will represent Ireland at a series of international competitions across the 2026 season:
- ECA Cup 1 – 20–21 June 2026, Thury-Harcourt (U21 Women, U21 Men, Senior Women, Senior Men)
- International Tournament de Paddell – 15–16 August 2026 (U21 Women, U21 Men, Senior Women, Senior Men)
- ICF Canoe Polo World Championships – 15–20 September 2026, Duisburg (U21 Women, Senior Women, U21 Men TBC)
The selection policy has been designed to provide athletes with a clear and transparent pathway, allowing them to benchmark their development and maximise their preparation and performances throughout the season. The policy was developed by the Canoeing Ireland Performance and Pathways Director, in consultation with the relevant Canoe Polo committee, and has been ratified by the Canoeing Ireland CEO and Board of Directors.
