Canoeing Ireland has taken part in its first Erasmus+ Mobility of Sport Staff programme, Waves of Change: Advancing Inclusion & Sustainability in Paddlesports. Six representatives of Canoeing Ireland and the paddling community travelled to Denmark to learn from the Danish paddling community, exploring best practice in inclusion and environmental sustainability and how this learning can be shared across Irish paddling communities.
Participants visited a range of kayak clubs delivering inspiring programmes and initiatives. Highlights included a kayaking festival for people who are visually impaired, learning about the Green Kayak initiative from its founder, taking part in a youth-led river clean-up programme, and learning about specialist paddling programmes that provide safe and supportive spaces for war veterans. The group also met with staff from the Danish Canoe Federation, strengthening connections with the Danish paddling community.
