Ahead of the 2023 Special Olympics World Games in Berlin (17th June – 25th June), we are excited to announce a team of incredibly dedicated athletes. With each athlete coming to the team form their own brilliant journey, we are looking forward and proudly watching as they represent Ireland.

Bridget Walsh began her involvement with the Special Olympics at age 11 and is experiencing her proudest moment now representing Team Ireland. Dierdre O’Callaghan is one to watch, having competed in the World Games previously and having won a silver medal in doing so.  Phillip Comerford, having been involved in many other sports, is incredibly excited to be representing Ireland through kayaking. Cian Kelleher has been involved with the Special Olympics for 10 years and has provided much enthusiasm and motivation and advice for all athletes, namely – “Try your best, train hard, go to training.”. Michelle O’Keane, having also previously competed and won Silver in the 2019 World Games, is certainly another one to watch. Lastly, but not least, Liam Hynes is part of this incredible team, having been involved with the Special Olympics for 10 years and has provided advice for all to use – “Keep on trying – always do your best even if you don’t win!”.

This inspiring team has been chosen for their strength, dedication, and motivation to represent Ireland proudly. The World Games is a fantastic opportunity for sports people of all ages from 8 upwards with intellectual disabilities to demonstrate courage, joy and participation. We look forward to watching Team Ireland compete.
