The 2024 – 2027 strategic plan for Canoeing Ireland lays out an ambitious path for the organisation and its members, continuing the growth seen in over the last four years while maintaining and enhancing our excellence in the areas of governance and leadership. The Canoeing Ireland membership have been a significant contributor to the formation of this strategy, demonstrating the commitment of the paddle sports community in continuing to develop our sport together.

The six pillars the strategy is built on reflect the growth of the organisation over the previous plan, and the particular importance of the areas of environmental and sustainability, and equality, diversity and inclusion –

  1. Governance and Leadership
  2. Marketing, Communications and Member Engagement
  3. Infrastructure and Facilities
  4. Participation and Inclusion
  5. Competition Pathway and Athlete Development
  6. Sustainability, Environmental Responsibility and Access

These pillars capture Canoeing Ireland’s commitment to creating a sport and a community which is open to as many people as possible, all while working towards a sustainable future and a flourishing outdoor environment for future generations to enjoy. At a recent Discipline committee forum members got a first look at the new strategy which will guide the organisation over the next four years.

Canoeing Ireland President, Lynda Byrne, praised the ambition of the new strategy and demonstrated its aim to bring the organisation into the future.

“This Strategic Plan is both stretching and exciting. Building on our great work and achievement so far, we look forward to an adventurous few years full of growth and success”

When commenting on the strategy Moira Aston, Canoeing Ireland CEO, reinforced the role of a unified approach with the entire community in achieving the goals set out in this document.

“Our new strategic plan underpins our ambition and passion for our sport. Together we will continue our growth as a vibrant, inclusive and sustainable community.”
