On Saturday 11th November Canoeing Ireland hosted its first ever Inclusive and Adaptive Paddle Sports Workshop at the University of Limerick.
These workshops are aimed at instructors who are currently working with, or wished to acquire the skills needed, to deliver paddle sessions with disability groups in their local club / organisation or workplace.
The workshop was a practical skills workshop and followed best current practices. The workshop was delivered by Kasia Mielniczuk an outdoor activity instructor with over 14 years’ experience working with people with disabilities. She specialises in adapted and inclusive outdoor sports and the development of inclusive programmes. The workshop was facilitated by Ronan O Connor, Canoeing Ireland Project Officer.
It was a very informative and practical day and was very well received by all who attended. Everyone agreed and recognised the need for more inclusive practices in Paddle sports and are keen to utilise their newly learned skills .
