To cap a year in which Canoeing Ireland has made some excellent progress in the areas of equality, diversity and inclusion, we are extremely proud to have achieved the Xcessible Bronze Award from Active Disability Ireland.

The Xcessible programme is an inclusive programme designed for National Governing Bodies of Sport (NGBs) and Local Sports Partnerships (LSPs) to positively and meaningfully provide opportunities for people with disabilities to take part in sport and physical activity.

This award is testament to the efforts of the entire Canoeing Ireland team in working to create a sport which is accessible to as many people as possible. The Bronze Award was brought over the line by Emer Carton, Diversity & Inclusion Manager, with continuous work to align Canoeing Ireland with the five pillars of the ADI Charter – Openness, People, Activities, Facilities, Promotion. We would like to thank Active Disability Ireland and Sport Ireland for their support in this process and looking forward to working closely with both as we shift our focus to the Silver Award.
